STAGECOACH in FIFE SERVICE CHANGES 8 JULY 2002 CLICK HERE
UPDATED WITH ALL THE LATEST HAPPENINGS!

Monday 5 August 2002
Strathtay Scottish took over Services 137, 138, 139 from Dundee city centre & Downfield to Bridgefoot, Auchterhouse, the Sidlaws, and Tealing Village. The first three were served by various Alexanders/Northern services until SCOTMAP in the early 1980's, when Tayside Regional Council instigated a replacement service betwen Downfield and Auchterhouse. The route was operated by Strathtmartine Mini Coaches using various Ford Transits over the years, until that company ceased in 1995. Fisher Tours won the contract then for another three years, twice over. In 2001 the contract was extended for another year, as a result of all the surveying done for services at the other extremity of Angus! However, Strathtay will be doing the route now until August 2005 - and Mercedes 166 joins Metrorider 172 (used today) with blinds inserts for the route. A timetable for the route can be found in the "Alternative Strathtay Buses Website" at
http://www.onthestrathtaybuses.info

Metrorider 172 seen at Bridgefoot (left) and Auchterhouse village (right). The sun was maybe a bit too strong today - but I've cut out the bus stop pole from the one on the left!

A trip around St Andrews, Hillfoots/Alloa, Falkirk, Stirling, Perth today - here's a few of what I saw!

Leyland Tiger/Alexander N-type 187 seen at the Tillicoultry bus stance.
A new branch of Tesco has opened in Alloa - at Kilmcraig Mill - and it is not very far away from the old Alloa Bus station! However, it might be somewhat of a bus station itself, as Services 14/14A, 15, 64, E65, combine to offer up to seven departures an hour. On the left Mercedes minibus 657 on the Alloa/Sauchie local service 64. On the right Scania 566 on Service 15 from Falkirk to Alloa Bowhouse Road.
On the left Leyland Tiger coach 341 seen in Falkirk town centre, on thelong 38 Stirling - Edinburgh route. On the right A road traffic accident blocked the road near Bonnybridge, meaning there were no buses from Falkirk to Glasgow - on either the 27 or 37 - for most of the afternoon. Around 1525, First in Glasgow Ailsa A41 turned up, to do a Service 37 back to Cumbernauld & Glasgow.
As the 1522 Falkirk - Stirling (commenced Edinburgh 1400) 38 arrived in the bus station, the driver was altered by others around him, of hot water pouring out the back of the bus! On the left Scania 570, as it was! On the right After a short delay, Metrobus 802 was given - however, showing 28 Stirling Bus Stn as the blind was jammed, and the "2" was stuck, and the "Stirling/Bus Station" was half-wound. However, the real 28 in Falkirk is ran by Stagecoach Fife - however, no chance of a double decker on that now due to a low bridge at Shires Mill.
On the left Balfron-based MCW Metrobus 881 leaving on Service 11 for the home depot. On the right First still operate evening journeys on Service 19 between Blackford & Perth, and the first one commences at Stirling commerically. Scania 525 was used on it tonight.

Remember last week, when I finally got round to posting the Fife stuff from T In The Park weekend? Well, it looks like I uploaded these three, but forgot to put them into HTML! So you could not see them! Well, you can now! Firstly, Leyland Olympian 707 - six days into the new D1 and a non low floor bus!, followed by Volvo B6 658 on new D2 at Tesco Duloch Park. Finally, Volvo Citybus 940 at Edinburgh, working the T In The Park shuttle. All taken on Saturday 13 July 2002.

Thursday 1 August 2002

First in Glasgow have a new set of destination blinds for Larkfield-based buses. Ailsa A101, working overGROUND service 75A, shows its "Bridge St (U) via City Centre" display. The (U) is the (SPT-operated) Glasgow Underground logo.
